Scorching Heatwave Grips Kuwait as Temperatures Soar to 51°C, Prompting Power Outages and Public Warnings

Kuwait is experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures reaching up to 51°C in areas like Al-Rabiya, Al-Jahra, and Al-Abdali, and 50°C at Kuwait International Airport. The extreme heat is attributed to an extension of the Indian monsoon depression, bringing a very hot air mass to the region. This weather pattern is expected to persist until Monday, with a slight drop in temperatures anticipated starting Tuesday. However, active northwesterly winds may continue to cause dust storms across parts of the country.

In response to the soaring temperatures, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy has implemented scheduled power outages in 51 areas, including Salmiya, Farwaniya, and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. These outages are due to a significant increase in electricity demand and ongoing maintenance work on power generation units. The ministry urges residents to reduce electricity and water consumption, especially during peak hours, to help maintain the stability of the electrical system.
